Cafer was appointed an Editorial Board Member at Chem, a new Chemistry journal by Cell Press


Cell Press, the prestigious publishing house, recently launched an exciting new Chemistry journal, "Chem" under the leadership of Dr. Robert D. Eagling.  After the foundation, Cafer was assigned an Editorial Advisory Board membership. His role will be assisting the editors of the journal for the quality assessment of the submitted articles in the areas of porous materials and carbon capture.

One lab wins two more Qatar NPRP funding

Through the 5th cycle of National Priorities Research Program (NPRP) by Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), ONE Lab won two awards:

The NPRP is an annual program, with grants of up to US$350,000, per year, for projects that span from one to three years. It funds original, competitively selected research and, as the largest funding activity of QNRF, has already invested over US$345M in 411 projects to date involving 134 collaborative institutions from around the world. The fund is open to both Qatari and non-Qatari citizens, located inside or outside Qatar and accepts proposals from all disciplines.

ONE Lab member, Ms. Jeehye Byun wins idea contest

Ms. Jeehye Byun, along with her team members, Ms. Dahee Park and Mr. Sang-Hyun Lee, wins the student idea festival - idea contest by the EEWS initiative. Their proposal was about water treatment with portable CDI(Capacitive Deionization) bottle by using cylindrical electrode(flexible graphene sheet). We congratulate her and her teammates.

Awarded grant from KAIST EEWS Initiative


In the phase II of EEWS Initiave for 2011-2013, ONE Lab received a 50 million KRW (per year) grant from KAIST EEWS Initiative. This grant is for the development of enhanced water treatment technologies by nanoscale ferrites and their carbon assemblies. This project is part of a team effort led by Prof. Mamadou Diallo and includes Profs. Yousung Jung, Bill Goddard and Seung Min Han under the title "Next generation of advanced materials and systems for water treatment and desalination".

Awarded a second grant from QNRF

In the third cycle of Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) National Priorities Research Program (NPRP), our team (Prof. Mert Atilhan, Prof. Nezih Pala and Prof. Michael Shur) won a grant in the amount of $1,041,641 for the next three years. Our research will find ways to study methane clathrates (a rich source of natural gas that lies at the bottom of oceans) and safely extract them for the use of mankind. My first grant as a PI


Early Sunday, about 3 am in the morning, I got a phone call from my dear friend Prof. Mert Atilhan that the grant we applied for was awarded. This marks my first (substantial) grant as a principal investigator (PI). It's for $1,035,382 to be exact and the duration is 3 years. Thanks Qatar Foundation!
